The More, The Merrier

June 26, 2008

A short update, just so you know that we are still alive:

  • AAFE (Asian Americans for Equality) invited us to “Take Back Your Park Day!”. They had some great information on the renovation of the Allen & Pike Street Pedestrian Malls. It was really great to see a crowd develop around the displays to talk about public space and car traffic. Photos to come!
  • The Lower East Side Ecology Center won’t be able to attend our block party (they are having their 21st anniversary the day before). But they did provide us with lots of great information on how to have a small e-waste recycling collection at our party. The LES Ecology Center is super: they have a kitchen waste collection and they teach vermicomposting and make NYC a cleaner, less toxic place. Please check them out!
  • We went to an OROE (Office of Recycling Outreach and Education) volunteer orientation session to learn more about recycling and it turns out they have specific information for recycling & block parties. They said they’d email us about it… we will have the most thoroughly sorted block party trash in NYC.

Next on the list is to contact some bike shops. We’re also trying to find someone who can speak/write Cantonese to invite the Chinese residents on Broome Street to the party. My second-generation Mandarin is not cutting it. Wanna help?
